Every recommendation comes with a realistic ROI estimate - what it costs to build, what it saves, and roughly how long it takes to pay for itself. If something isn’t worth the investment, we’ll say so. You only spend money on automation that pays for itself.

Who you’ll be working with

Painless Automation was founded by Brian Payne. Yes, the name is a bit of a joke - Payne, but painless. The serious part is what sits behind it.

Brian is an engineer who has spent his career building and shipping real industrial systems, from automotive manufacturing to advanced robotics and automation. His background spans mechanical, hardware, embedded software, and systems engineering, so we understand what happens on a plant floor - not just what looks good in a slide deck.

Most AI consultants come from software. We came up through the shop floor. That difference matters when the goal is automation that survives contact with real operations, real operators, and real constraints.

We started Painless Automation because most manufacturers don’t need another dashboard - they need someone who’s actually built industrial systems to find where AI and automation pay for themselves on their floor, and build it without disrupting what already works. No jargon, no theory, no pain.

Honestly, you might not need it - and we’ll tell you if that’s the case. The Operational Assessment exists to answer exactly this question: we look at how your operation actually runs and come back with a realistic ROI estimate on the few places AI and automation could help, plus a clear list of what to skip. No estimate, no recommendation.

What if the assessment finds nothing worth automating?

Then that’s the finding, and you’ll have it in writing - which is worth knowing before you spend money chasing the hype. You’ll still walk away with a clear picture of your processes and where the real time sinks are. We’d rather tell you to wait than sell you a project that won’t pay for itself.

How long does a typical project take?

An Operational Assessment usually takes about 1–2 weeks, and an Implementation Project runs about 2–4 weeks from spec to hand-off, including testing, documentation, and a team training session. Every project also includes 2–4 weeks of post-launch tuning so it actually sticks.

Do I need technical staff to maintain what you build?

No. We build on the tools you already use, document everything with plain-language SOPs, and train your team to run it day to day. The goal is something your existing people can own - not a system that only works while we’re around.
